Support for couples undergoing in vitro fertilisation

Published

In 2023, the City of Smederevo once again continued to co-finance the costs of in vitro fertilisation for 7 couples who wish to become parents.

RSD 1 million was initially allocated from the city budget, and these funds were recently increased by a further RSD 1.8 million.

The couples have thus been provided with financial support to pay for services at healthcare institutions in the Republic of Serbia that treat infertility using biomedically assisted reproduction procedures.

Reimbursement can be granted from the budget for a maximum of four IVF attempts, and couples who already have children but would like to become parents once again are also entitled to it.

The contribution towards the costs of IVF is determined on the basis of a pro forma invoice or invoice from the healthcare institution providing the service, up to a maximum of RSD 400,000 per couple.

Under the IVF Contract, couples are required to submit receipts and invoices for the funds spent within five months of the date of payment.

“The family is the pillar of society, and that is why the City of Smederevo will continue to allocate funds to help couples who wish to become parents, and with this support we are also improving the city’s demographic picture.

Since 2008, when the local government in Smederevo began these support measures, 146 couples have received funding, with 19 successful IVF procedures and 25 children born.

To date, the City has allocated a total of around RSD 30 million to co-finance IVF costs,” said Jasmina Vojinović, President of the Provisional Authority of the City of Smederevo, at a meeting with the couples who applied this year for co-financing of their IVF costs.
