Self-employment and new employment contracts handed over

Published

Contracts for new employment and self-employment under the public calls issued for 2026 were handed over today at the City Administration in Smederevo.

The contracts were handed over to the beneficiaries by the Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, who on that occasion stressed the importance of supporting the development of the local economy:

“The City of Smederevo will continue to support employment, because investing in new jobs is not a cost but an investment in the future of our city.

Every new business and every new job contributes to the development of Smederevo and to a better quality of life for all of us.”

A total of 46 contracts were handed over today: 11 employers will hire 12 people, while 35 people have started their own businesses and registered as sole traders.

These contracts are part of three public calls issued jointly by the City of Smederevo and the National Employment Service (NES) for the employment of 88 hard-to-employ persons, with total funding of RSD 27,568,627.45.

Under a joint agreement between the City of Smederevo and the NES, RSD 21,568,627.45 was allocated for two measures.

RSD 7,843,137.25 was earmarked for subsidies for the employment of 34 hard-to-employ persons, with individual subsidies ranging from RSD 230,000.00 to RSD 276,000.00.

RSD 13,725,490.25 was allocated for self-employment, with individual support of RSD 380,000.00, or RSD 420,000.00 for persons with disabilities.

In addition, the City financed the public works measure from its own funds with RSD 6,000,000.00 to engage a further 18 people.

These measures go hand in hand with positive trends on the labour market: at the end of September 2026, 1,901 unemployed persons were registered in Smederevo, a fall in unemployment of 3.10% compared with September of the previous year, when the figure was 1,960.

“The City of Smederevo will continue to give strong support to the development of the local economy through these programmes in the future,” the Mayor stressed at the contract award ceremony.
