Heralding the start of the new school year in Smederevo’s primary and secondary schools, school bells rang again this morning after a break of two and a half months.
The first school day began with the national anthem “Bože pravde” and the traditional welcome for first-year pupils, of whom there are 948 in Smederevo this year, 74 more than last year. The new generation of secondary school pupils numbers 920.

To mark the start of the new school year, the Deputy Mayor of Smederevo, Vladimir Nešić, and Aleksandra Mitić, Member of the City Council responsible for education and culture, visited Primary School “Branko Radičević” in Lugavčina this morning, and Primary School “Branislav Nušić” in the afternoon.
On these occasions they wished the first-year pupils and the other pupils a happy start to the new school year, good marks and a happy childhood.
Since the beginning of the year, the local government has spent around RSD 90 million on capital and routine maintenance of school buildings, and all the necessary works were carried out over the summer, which has helped Smederevo’s primary and secondary schools to be ready for the start of lessons.
