The Department for General Administration and Local Communities performs tasks relating to: – keeping civil registers and registers of citizens (issuing birth, marriage and death certificates, issuing certificates of citizenship, entering all changes in the civil registers, receiving applications for marriage);
- first-instance administrative proceedings concerning citizens’ personal status;
- filing office and archive tasks;
- dispatch tasks;
- updating the voter register and ensuring the general conditions for holding elections and referendums;
- tasks of local communities, professional, administrative and technical tasks for local community councils, other bodies and working bodies, and preparing and submitting draft and proposed decisions and other acts to the competent authorities;
- distributing city public transport passes to persons over sixty-five;
- preparing the financial plans of urban and rural local communities in accordance with the Decision on the Budget of the City of Smederevo;
- monitoring the financial operations of local communities, the use of budget funds planned for financing the work of local communities and the use of local self-contributions;
- preparing reports on the financial operations of local communities and implementing the decisions and conclusions of the City Council and the City Assembly concerning the work of local communities;
- other tasks in accordance with the law, the City Statute and other acts of the City.
