Work of the city government

Jasmina Vojinović is the new Mayor of Smederevo

Published

The second session of the local parliament was held in Smederevo today, at which the city’s new leadership was elected.

By a majority vote, Jasmina Vojinović, who until now served as President of the Provisional Authority of the City, was elected the new Mayor of the City of Smederevo. A class teacher by profession, she has been active in politics for many years and is the current President of the City Board of the Serbian Progressive Party in Smederevo.

By decision of the Assembly majority, the office of Deputy Mayor of the City of Smederevo for the next four-year term will be held by Vladimir Nešić, also from the list “Aleksandar Vučić, Smederevo Must Not Stop”.

The new members of the City Council are: Dejan Stošić, Snežana Ranković, Aleksandra Mijatović, Aleksandra Mitić, Ivana Matejić, Goran Pavlović, Jovan Vidojević and Dragan Đorđević, all from the list “Aleksandar Vučić, Smederevo Must Not Stop”, Bojan Kostić from the list “God, Family, Smederevo”, and Slaviša Stošić and Nemanja Ivošević from the ranks of the Socialist Party of Serbia.

Thanking all the citizens who gave enormous support to the list “Aleksandar Vučić, Smederevo Must Not Stop” in the December elections, and the coalition partners who recognised the importance of the task facing the city’s new leadership, the newly elected Mayor of Smederevo, Jasmina Vojinović, also thanked all the citizens who did not go to the polls on 17 December or who voted for other electoral lists, stressing that they had thereby given a clear signal that the city’s new leadership must be more engaged and work with greater dedication so that Smederevo can move faster along the path of progress.

“It is an honour for me to be Mayor of Smederevo, but I am aware that it is also a great responsibility. Together with my team, I will strive to work hard to make our city and its 11 urban and 27 rural local communities more decent places to live and work. It will take a great deal of time, effort and love to bring our Smederevo back to its rightful place among the larger cities of Serbia, following the policy pursued by the President of the Republic, Aleksandar Vučić.”

In line with the mandate it has been given, as Mayor Jasmina Vojinović pointed out, over the next four years the local government will continue the projects already under way and create new ones, and it will work to create a more favourable business environment, give greater support to agriculture, build road and utility infrastructure, and create better working conditions for schools by equipping and reconstructing their buildings. The focus will also be on improving the work of public enterprises, health and social protection, developing tourism, reconstructing and building sports grounds and playgrounds, and supporting parenthood.

“As Mayor, I will insist on intensive cooperation with the relevant ministries so that we can more easily carry out the major projects we are planning, because many cities across Serbia have felt the help of the Government and its ministers in the previous period. It is time for us to put our Smederevo on the list of priorities too,” Mayor Jasmina Vojinović said from the Assembly rostrum, among other things.
